Derby Mountain Rescue Team was called out on Saturday 19 September 2026 after a 20-year-old woman felt unwell while walking in Dovedale and became separated from her group.

The team said it was contacted following reports that the woman had become unwell and separated from her group during the afternoon.

Rescuers established phone contact with her and were able to confirm her whereabouts. With guidance from the team, she made her own way to a nearby footpath while volunteers travelled out to meet her, the team said.

When team members reached her, they assessed her condition and found she was "feeling much better". She was then driven through Dovedale in a team vehicle and reunited with a member of her group.

"Once everyone was safely accounted for, the team stood down," the team said in a post on its website.

Dovedale and the Derwent Valley

Dovedale lies along the Derwent Valley Heritage Way, a 55-mile waymarked footpath through the Peak District that runs from Ladybower Reservoir, through Chatsworth and the Derbyshire Dales, to Derwent Mouth where the river meets the Trent. (Wikipedia)

Staying safe

Mountain rescue teams advise walkers to stay together as a group where possible and to agree a plan for regaining contact if separated. Carrying a charged phone and knowing how to describe or share a location can help rescuers find a walker quickly if they become unwell or lost. (lowlandrescue.org)
