Derby MRT searches for missing person near Elvaston

The person was later found safe at a police station, the team said.

Derby Mountain Rescue Team was called out on the evening of Saturday 5 September 2026 to help Derbyshire Police search for a vulnerable missing person near Elvaston.

Derbyshire Police asked the team to help search an area around Elvaston before nightfall, the team said. Volunteers, search dogs and the team's drone section were sent to look over open and rough ground.

The search went on into the evening until each team had finished checking its assigned area, and crews then returned to the rendezvous point. After talking with Derbyshire Police, mountain rescue stood down later that night while the available information was reviewed.

The team said: "The following morning, the team was informed that the missing person had presented themselves at a police station and was safe and well."

The team

Derby Mountain Rescue Team covers the Peak District and the surrounding area. It recorded 93 call-outs in 2025, according to the Mountain Rescue England and Wales Annual Review 2026.

So far in 2026, the team's website lists several call-outs, including searches at Leek, Cannock Chase and Black Rocks. (Mountain Rescue England and Wales, Derby MRT)

Lowland Rescue says its volunteer search teams work alongside the police to look for missing people, using trained search dogs and other specialist skills to help cover ground quickly. (lowlandrescue.org)
