Edale Mountain Rescue Team was called out on Monday 19 October 2026 to search for two lost walkers on the Kinder plateau in the Peak District.

The team was asked to help by the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation duty controller, acting on behalf of the police, to search for the pair on Kinder Scout.

"A request from the PDMRO duty controller on behalf of the police to a search on the Kinder Plateau for two lost walkers," the team said in a post on its website.

While the team was travelling to the scene, phone technology was used to locate the walkers. The team said they had been pinpointed in a neighbouring team's area, and Edale Mountain Rescue Team was stood down.

Staying safe

Mountain Rescue England and Wales advises anyone in difficulty in the hills to dial 999 or 112 and ask for the police, then mountain rescue, giving their location and details of the incident, and to stay put until contacted by the rescue team. It also notes that mobile phone signal in the hills can be unreliable and batteries can fade quickly. (mountain.rescue.org.uk)
