A climber who fell 6m at Birchens Edge, near Baslow, was rescued by Edale Mountain Rescue Team on Saturday 17 October 2026.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team was called at 2.46pm to the climber, who was reported to have a back injury with possible bleeding after the fall.

The call came in while the team was already dealing with another incident at Burbage. Some team members and a vehicle were diverted to Birchens Edge, and the team made a further call for reinforcements.

Team members arriving at the scene were met by an off-duty emergency medicine doctor, who handed over an assessment of the climber. The team said in a post on its website: "After a primary survey, the team administered strong analgesia before packaging the climber onto our stretcher for the journey to the Robin Hood car park to be handed over to the ambulance crew and conveyance to hospital for further treatment."

Staying safe

In a hill emergency, people are advised to dial 999 or 112 and ask for the police, then mountain rescue, giving the exact location, the nature of injuries, the number of casualties and a phone number, then staying put until told otherwise. (mountain.rescue.org.uk)
