Upon the activation of a distress flare, both the Glencoe and Oban Mountain Rescue Teams sprang into action.

A representative from the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team shared,

“We were informed by Police Scotland about a hillwalker who had activated a satellite beacon following a fall in the Glen Kinglass region.”

While the location was technically under the Oban team’s jurisdiction, the Glencoe team realised they could reach the distressed individual faster via Glen Etive.

“The reported position placed the individual in the Oban Mountain Rescue Team’s area, but we realized we could get there quicker through Glen Etive,” the representative added.

The challenges were manifold, with heavy rain and low cloud cover making helicopter assistance impossible.

However, the teams were undeterred. Using the Glencoe team’s new 6×6 bike, they quickly approached the area.

Once the walker was located, he was provided with immediate medical assistance, pain relief, and subsequently transported to an awaiting ambulance in Glen Etive.

The Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team expressed their gratitude, stating,

“We extend our thanks to the Oban MRT for their collaborative efforts, ensuring a timely rescue.”
