A woman was rescued from Snarker Pike on Thursday 8 October 2026 after she slipped and injured her ankle, Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team said.

The team was called out in the evening after the woman fell and hurt her ankle while fellwalking.

Conditions were described by the team as cold, dark and wet. "Summer has definitely ended now!" the team said in a post on its website.

Eleven team members attended and the operation lasted two hours. The woman was treated at the scene before being evacuated.

The team

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team covers the Lake District and is made up of volunteers who respond to incidents throughout the year, in all weather conditions, according to its website. The team recorded 151 call-outs in 2025, according to the Mountain Rescue England and Wales Annual Review 2026.

Its website states it has recorded 130 rescues so far this year. (Mountain Rescue England and Wales, Langdale Ambleside MRT)

Staying safe

Anyone who gets into difficulty in the hills should dial 999 or 112 and ask for the police, then mountain rescue, according to Mountain Rescue England and Wales. People calling for help should note the location, details of any casualty and the nature of their injuries before they call, and should not change position until contacted by the rescue team.

Phone batteries can fade quickly in cold conditions, so walkers are advised to charge devices fully before setting out and to keep call times short to conserve power. (mountain.rescue.org.uk)
