Before we get started, I wanted to share a personal experience. At the start of the school holidays we had a week’s camping holiday planned and the forecast was bad weather. That wasn’t going to stop us going camping, but we just made sure we packed more “inside games” stuff we can play as a family. Board games etc.
In fact the best game me and my middle child played was laying on the floor and guessing which ‘rain drops’ would win as they raced down the side of the tent.
It was wet especially for the first few days but it the forecast was wrong for the rest of the week and we had a great time. Check the forecast and plan according.

I love a campfire, in fact I try and pick sites that allow them, but on the trip I mentioned above where it rained alot, towards the end of the week it dried up and we got the firepit lit to make s’moores for the kids and the neighbours kids as well as other kids on the campsite. Then spider dogs came out. In fact the main reason I love a good campfire is it brings people together, on our last night on that camping trip we had half the campsite around our pitch. I was being a great host cooking stuff for the kids etc and we got our that well with our camping neighbours we both booked to go to a different site again next year (and yes the fire pit will be lit).
