The picturesque town of Kendal, nestled in the heart of South Cumbria, is buzzing with anticipation as it prepares to host the much-awaited Kendal Walking Festival over the late Spring Bank Holiday weekend, from May 25 to 27.
This year’s event promises an array of diverse walks, catering to both seasoned hikers and families looking for an outdoor adventure.
A Festival for Every Walker:
Spanning the scenic stretches from Arnside to the majestic heights of Helvellyn and Ullswater, the Kendal Walking Festival offers something for everyone. Participants can look forward to exploring waterfalls, embarking on classic ‘horseshoe’ routes, and enjoying breathtaking sea views.
The festival is designed to showcase the natural beauty of South Cumbria while promoting physical well-being and a sense of community among walkers.
Organised by Wellbeing Westmorland CIC:
The festival is brought to life by Wellbeing Westmorland CIC, a team dedicated to enhancing community well-being through outdoor activities.
“The Kendal Walking Festival is an ideal opportunity to sample some great walks under the watchful eye of our experienced and knowledgeable walk leaders,” said Stuart Lockton from Wellbeing Westmorland CIC.
The festival also pays homage to Alfred Wainwright, Britain’s most famous walks writer, by featuring several walks that allow participants to bag a few of the ‘Wainwrights’.
Kendal: The Perfect Base for Walkers:
Supported by Kendal BID, the festival highlights Kendal’s strategic location as a gateway to both the Lakes and the Dales. “Kendal has both the Lakes and the Dales on its doorstep and is a great central base from which to start many great walks,” said Peter Brendling, manager of Kendal BID.
With its impressive range of amenities, Kendal is poised to cater to the needs of festival-goers, offering everything from packed lunches for the trails to comfortable accommodation for a restful night’s sleep.
Join the Celebration:
The Kendal Walking Festival not only aims to attract visitors but also encourages local residents to discover new trails and experiences right in their backyard.
With walks graded from easy to moderate to strenuous, the festival is a call to adventure for people of all ages and abilities. As the festival approaches, Kendal invites walking enthusiasts from near and far to join in the celebration of nature, health, and community.
As the Kendal Walking Festival strides ahead this May, it stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of walking as a way to connect with nature, explore the stunning landscapes of South Cumbria, and foster a sense of community among outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a family looking for a weekend adventure, the Kendal Walking Festival offers an unforgettable experience for all.
