A mountain biker was rescued after coming off his bike while riding off-road in the Poldice Valley on a Sunday in late September 2026, West Cornwall Search and Rescue Team said in a post on its website published on Wednesday 7 October 2026.

The team was tasked by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust through Devon and Cornwall Police after the rider sustained a lower-leg injury.

A paramedic was already at the scene, and the team happened to be training nearby, so its off-road response vehicle reached the casualty quickly. More volunteers were then called in to help.

Volunteers packaged the casualty and carried him uphill over rough ground to a waiting ambulance, where he was handed over for further treatment. The team said in a post on its website: "We'd like to wish the casualty a speedy recovery."

The call came in at 4pm and the incident was completed by 6.15pm, the team said.

Staying safe

AdventureSmart UK advises anyone heading out, including mountain bikers, to check they have the knowledge and skills for the activity, to know the weather forecast and to carry the right gear before setting off. If help is needed underground, people should dial 999 and ask for the police, then for cave rescue, according to the British Cave Rescue Council. (caverescue.org.uk, adventuresmart.uk)
