A walker who became separated from their group near Ennerdale was reunited with them before Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team needed to send out a full party, the team said. The incident happened late on Saturday 17 October 2026.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was alerted shortly before midnight on 17 October after a walker lost contact with their group in Ennerdale.

One volunteer was involved over a period of about two hours and ten minutes, in dark and cold conditions, the team said.

"A walker became separated from their group, but after further enquiries, met up again before any further Team deployment became necessary," the team said in a post on its website.

Staying safe

Lowland Rescue, which supports police searches for missing people, says volunteer search teams are trained to help locate those who become separated from a group. Walkers are generally advised to stay together where possible and to agree a plan for regrouping if separation happens. (lowlandrescue.org)
