A 63-year-old woman fell on the limestone pavement above the cove and was helped down with the Cave Rescue Organisation's assistance.
A woman, 63, was helped to safety after falling on the limestone pavement above Malham Cove, North Yorkshire, the Cave Rescue Organisation said in a post on its website on Saturday 31 October 2026.
The Cave Rescue Organisation was alerted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to help a walker who had fallen on the limestone pavement at the top of Malham Cove, causing a head injury.
A team controller met the ambulance crew and reached the casualty quickly, while other members and vehicles were sent to the scene.
"Thankfully, the casualty was able to walk, with assistance," the team said in a post on its website.
The place
Malham Cove is a large curved limestone formation about 0.6 miles north of the village of Malham in North Yorkshire. It was formed by a waterfall carrying glacial meltwater at the end of the last Ice Age, more than 12,000 years ago.
A limestone pavement lies above the cove, within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Staying safe
Anyone needing a cave or mountain rescue team should dial 999 and ask for the police, then for cave rescue, according to the British Cave Rescue Council. AdventureSmart UK advises walkers to check the weather forecast, carry the right gear and be confident in their skills before setting off, particularly as limestone pavements can be uneven underfoot.
